We've been getting quite a few calls from fishermen (and women) asking about the cold snap in January 2010 and if it has affected the fishing. The answer is both YES and NO. Many species of game fish are still around but may be found in different areas. Some of the more shallow water fish, such as saltwater cats, experienced a pretty good die off in areas from Fort Myers and north.
Since the cold weather that finally ended late January, the big producer is REDFISH. Small shrimp will catch them. Also we've been seeing a number of sheephead. Try bottom fishing in deeper spots. Trout fishing has also been pretty good.
We're going to start bringing you photos and catch notes from guests at Fisherman's Village and San Carlos RV Park and Resort. Check back each month to see new photos.
Have questions or need a place to stay while fishing in the Fort Myers area? Give us a call at (800) 525-7275.
